Study abroad FAQs
If your home institution is a partner institution and has an exchange agreement with us you can study here and pay tuition fees to your home institution. Depending on the agreement in place, there may be other costs you will need budget for such as accommodation, insurance, and textbooks.
Semester 1: February - June
Semester 2: July - November
You must be nominated by your home institution. Eligible degree level students choose to do either one or two semesters with us.
Depending on the agreement in place your study may be credited to your degree in your home country.
For Students
- After being nominated by your home institution, you will be contacted directly with application documents, information, and deadline.
- Complete the Exchange and Study Abroad Application form by deadline along with required documents:
- Passport copy
- Certified copy of academic transcript (in English)
- English Language proficiency results (Please note you will need to provide results from IELTS or PTE)
- Submit completed application form, including signature and all relevant documentation, in one email to exchanges@ara.ac.nz.
- Indicate if you are interested in staying in student accommodation, Ōtautahi House, as soon as possible (application deadline 31 October). Further accommodation information linked here. Homestay options are also available with a later deadline.

If your home institution does not have an exchange agreement with us but is a partner institution you can study here as a Study Abroad student usually for a period of one semester.
You will pay your tuition fees directly to us. As a study abroad student from a partner institution there may be partial fee scholarships available to you. Please enquire directly to our Student Exchange and Study Abroad Coordinator by email: exchanges@ara.ac.nz
