Orientation

All international students will join in a Student Orientation programme - this will help you adjust to the lifestyle and study habits in New Zealand.

Academic year and intake dates

Ara's academic year is made up of two semesters for mainstream programmes:

  • Semester 1: January/February - June
  • Semester 2: July –November/December

For the new intake dates for a specific mainstream programme, you can contact our international admissions team via email at intladmissions@ara.ac.nz.

Our English language courses have monthly intakes.

Orientation programme

The department that you study in will organise an orientation which will introduce you to your tutors, classmates, learning facilities and other topics when you begin your study.  As well as this you will be required to attend an International Orientation to inform you about study in New Zealand, visa requirements and other support services available to you.

English language students

In addition to orientation, English language students will sit a pre entry test on the first day of class. The pre-entry test ensures students are in the right class for their English level. You will be studying English as well as learning more about day-to-day living in New Zealand, support systems available to you, and people who can help you if you have questions.
